Albatross Shaves
Without a doubt, the most sustainable shaving company in the world today must be Albatross Designs (http://albatrossDesigns.it). They are essentially the first company to direct specific focus onto the idea of Zero Waste Shaving and they made a concerted effort to employ the double edged safety razor in this capacity. From its founding Albatross Shaves has had the mission to “eliminate plastic from shaving” and that has translated into the development of an immensely conscientious company.
The Albatross Blade Take Back Program is also very cool. The company will take back all brands of used, double edged blades (not just their own) to prevent the stainless steel from being wasted. And, cooler yet is that they are working in-house on ways to upcycle this metal into other products that have sustainability benefits (vs. simply sending the used metal to a scrapyard).
Albatross scored high in every category we evaluated them on, especially affordability, quality, and of course ecological footprint. They are purpose driven, and we congratulate them on being the 2019 ZeroWasteShaving.com WINNER for best Zero Waste Shaving company.

Runner Up: Feather SS Folding Straight Razor
Straight razors offer much the same advantages that double edge safety razors do in terms of saving plastic pollution, however, they do take a considerable degree more skill and practice in order to shave efficiently and comfortably with. They can also produce some seriously nasty cuts when mishandled. All the same, they produce a remarkably close shave with no associated plastic waste, you simply sharpen as needed. Saying that, Albatross’ used blade Take Back program makes them 100% waste free too if you so choose to participate, and their safety guide will definitely prove welcomed to many users. Still, this folding razor by Feather has merit. It has an extraordinarily durable grip thanks to a resin handle. Though we would have liked to see natural materials used throughout, we acknowledge the importance of this functional advantage in straight razor shaving. Altogether, Feather wins in making a sleek, functional, durable shaving tool that can enable a lifetime of zero waste shaving. However, they could be doing better in terms of their environmental impact by eliminating their usage of any and all plastics in their packaging.
